VISION

Cori’s vision for the Alberta Federation of Labour focuses on three areas.

See the “why” and “how” of Cori’s vision below.

1.

Empower – the strength of our labour movement is a reflection of individual worker power. In order to have strong unions, members need to have a strong foundation of labour knowledge. This is where Cori and the AFL come in. Cori wants Albertan unionized workers to feel empowered.

The AFL under Cori’s leadership as Secretary Treasurer will:

  • Create opportunities to empower and educate unionized workers.
  • Focus events on knowledge of the labour movement and the workers’ struggle.
  • Provide opportunities to be inspired by other labour successes and labour leaders.
  • Focus education on helping workers find their voice and speaking out.
  • Prioritize in-person opportunities to feel the experience of “solidarity”.
  • Convene union members together to feel the strength of the labour movement.

2.

Build – the superpower of a labour central is bringing workers together. Cori has a growth mindset and wants to grow the Alberta Federation of Labour. Cori will showcase the value of affiliation while creating experiences that pull workers in.

The AFL under Cori’s leadership as Secretary Treasurer will:

  • Prioritize events that focus on growing the AFL.
  • Run all AFL operations through a financial health lens.
  • Vocalize and showcase the benefits of being affiliated to the AFL.
  • Build out costing that divides fees into affiliated and non-affiliated rates.
  • Reach out to non-affiliates and develop relationships.
  • Build more coalition tables which bring labour leaders together.

3.

Sparkle and Shinein order to have more unionized workers, we need to show that the labour movement is the place to be and being a unionized worker is the goal. Cori will focus on elevating the experience of being a part of the AFL.

The AFL under Cori’s leadership as Secretary Treasurer will:

  • Lead, by example, in lifting other labour leaders up.
  • Lead with a solutions-focused approach.
  • Add elements of excitement and enjoyment to AFL events.
  • Build opportunities for workers to get together and want to show off what they’re a part of.
  • Bring fun back into fighting bosses.
  • Lead the AFL to be an organization that is efficient, nimble and streamlined.
  • Create moments that workers want to be part of.
  • Grasp and actualize the true potential of the AFL.
